Clerics Demand Death

Senior clerics in Afghanistan are "demanding" that Abdul Rahman, the Muslim who converted to Christianity be put to death. What disturbs me is not the senior poobah's intolerance, but the average Afghan seems still more blood thirsty. Can we coexist on this planet with people who believe that it's required of them to kill those of different faiths?
It's their country they can do as they please, but what if a bunch of European Nobleman get all pissed off over this, and some Roman prince tells them that God wills them to avenge Rahman's martyrdom? What then? How can those who call for this man's death object to being attacked for their faith when murder is a central tenet of theirs?
