So the Sox went out and spent some big money on a new pitcher, Daisuke Matsuzaka - I hope he works out. I think Theo and his staff know more about what they're doing than I do, so I'll remain cautiously optimistic. In general I think it's a bad idea to try and keep pace with Yankee spending, i.e. Kevin Brown, Carl Pavano etc. because despite their ridiculous payroll they're not much better than any other perennial AL contender.

I think Dice K is worth the risk. 70 million for J.D. Drew seems to be a bit much for someone who by most account plays the game without passion. I think the sox are hoping for him to 'wake up' but ask Dodger fans how releived they were to be rid of him and i have my doubts. Especially overpaying for him.
