Supreme Court Upholds Partial Birth Abortion Ban

Red State has a link to a pdf of the decision. It's 73 pages long. Kennedy wrote the opinion. Ginsberg wrote the dissent. I haven't read any of it yet. I'm happy with the result at least. Other than that, I can't comment yet.

It bothers me that people who oppose partial birth abortion don't address the important issue of the reasons women have them. I saw a woman on the news last night who discussed the agonizing decision she and her husband made to abort their child when it was found to have kidney problems and would have suffered a painful birth and certain death. Perhaps you cannot sympathize with their plight - somehow, I can.

I can sympathize, but I don't understand how it's preferable to kill your dying child rather than to allow her or him to be born, hold him or her and for the little time that you have, love that child.
If you are in favor of euthanasia, let's hear your argument. Personally I worry that the inconvenient, the infirm, female babies will die deaths of expedience. That and I don’t see how any of these people have any less right to live than you or I do. All of us are dying, some just have more time than others.

I am not surprised that you bring up euthanasia. As I wrote that comment and considered your response I determined that feelings on the partial abortion issue likely correlate to feelings on euthanasia. I don't believe in prolonged human suffering. I do believe in euthanasisa. I have worked with someone in a persistant vegetative state (as was Terry Shivo) and I would not want to be kept alive under those circumstances. Perhaps I am combining two disparate topics but I think my belief in one does affect my belief in the other.

p.s. We've also left out the important issue of risk to the mother's health. Should a mother of three die rather than abort a child that has no chance of survival?

In all due respect, the chimera of the mother in danger has been used by abortionist for decades to kill millions of innocent children. I don’t buy it. But for the sake of argument let’s agree that in the case of a genuine life threatening pregnancy, where to continue would probably mean death to the mother, all reasonable steps should be made to save ALL life possible, up to and including termination if absolutely necessary . But please explain to me how ending the practice of partially delivering a child and sticking forceps into the child’s brain endangers the mother? The child is nearly delivered, the pregnancy nearly done.
